Free digital greeting cards are a fun and easy way to send a personalized greeting to your friends and family. Typically, the way these services work is you select the features of your card (including an image, background design, music, etc.) and type in a personalized greeting. Your recipient then will receive an E-mail message, directing her or him to a Web site to view your card. A newer variation involves sending the card as an executable E-mail attachment to your recipient.

 DAIRgrams - This service goes beyond your typical greeting card site: here, you can actually send a real card via snail mail, for free! You are limited to one "DAIRgram" per household per 48-hour period. Their cards are 4.25-by-5.5 inches and display ads to pay for the cost of postage. Cards are available here for many occasions, including birthdays, love, friendship, holidays and more. (International availability).
- Regards.com Postcards - This nifty free digital postcard site offers a great selection of interactive greetings, as well as hundreds of cards for any occasion, which you can customize, preview, and send instantly. Categories include "Care & Concern," "Thinking of You," "Mood Swings," pets, romance, sports, seasons and holidays, as well as the always-popular "Dancing Baby." Note: if you'd like a more personal touch, you can use your own image on one of their cards.
- This site offers handy unique features, such as the ability to send cards to multiple recipients. You can also schedule for cards to be delivered months in advance.
 Radiocards - This is a free European digital greeting card site with a novel idea. Here, you can customize your card with an image and your personal greeting, as well as a live streaming radio station selection. Card images here include various lovely scenes from Europe, including photos from Ireland, Spain, France, Canada, the U.S. and more.
- AAAPostCards.com - A fine new free digital greeting card site that offers cards for every occasion. Just browse the thumbnail images until you find the card you want, then personalize it with your message and send it on its way. AAAPostCards.com now offers a contest in which you can win a Sega Dreamcast console.
- Just Postcards - A quality free digital greeting card site, Just Postcards offers eight categories, including such topics as "Angels," "Fantasy Art," "Humor,"
"Vintage" and animated greetings. Some of the cards feature the work of Canadian cartoonist Tim Peckham. There's also a handy search engine to help you find just the card you need.
- Virtual Insults - OK, so sometimes you don't want a greeting card with all these sappy "I love you" Hallmark sentiments. There's someone out there who's annoying you and you want to tell them what you REALLY think. Virtual Insults has got what you need. Here, the fine art of insults is personified. You can send someone a witty (or not so witty) insult, complete with sound effects (such as a toilet flushing, etc.) Perfect for all "occasions."
- WrestleINC.com postcards - WrestleINC.com, one of the Web's premier wrestling-related sites, offers a good selection of free "Virtual Wrestling Cards" featuring images of top wrestlers from the WWF. This site also offer wrestling-related news, columns and even its own radio station.
- Middle-Earth Postcard Creator - J.R.R. Tolkien fans can celebrate the impending release of the new "Lord of the Rings" film, with this site's lovely postcards, which depict scenes from the British author's popular fantasy world.
- Greek postcards - Lots of lovely images of Greece at this free digital greetings site. Here, you'll find eye-catching photos of ancient monuments, cities, beaches, flowers, sunsets and islands. Other topics include romance and humor. (Offered in English, German and Greek).
- Gcards - A new free greeting cards site that offers an appealing selection of digital cards for every occasion. Categories here include "love," "nostalgia," "birthday," "flowers," "dolls," "bon voyage," "wildlife" and "pets," as well as general, all-purpose cards. You may select from either animated or non-animated images and if you can't think of what to say, there is even a variety of pre-written greetings available. You can personalize each card with your own message, text, background, music, etc.
- Emmaus Computing Greeting Cards - There's a nice assortment of animated free digital greeting cards at this site. Cards include "Thinking of You," birthday, congratulations, get well, thanks, "Making Up is Hard to Do" and more.
- E-mail Art - Here's a novel and classy way to get your sweetheart's attention. E-mail Art offers small, executable files that you can send with your E-mail. Once executed, they create lovely, fascinating artworks depicting roses, right before your eyes. Fun to watch. (For Windows 98/95 and NT).

- Free Cards for Music Lovers - Like the title says, this is a nice free digital card service that features images of many top pop, rock and country stars. Just select the thumbnail image of the artist you want and follow the instructions to send your card. Artists include Jewell, Natalie Imbruglia, Cher, Meredith Brooks and others.
- Virtual Post Cards - Here's a nice up-and-coming free postcard service. Card topics include cats, flowers, sunsets, landscapes and butterflies and more are promised soon. There are some lovely photographic images here.
- One Stop Card Shop - Nice new free postcard site with a small, but growing selection of original card images to choose from. Categories include gemstones, underwater, flowers, weddings and birthdays. Just browse through the thumbnail images; select the one you want and add a personalized touch and you're all set.
- Sourd-Prise Digital Greeting Cards - This interesting free digital card site is the only site we've seen that offers E-cards with pictures related to the topic of deafness and sign language. (Available in English and French).
- Virtual Business Postcards - This unique service offers free digital business-related postcards. Just select your design (and, if you'd like, an accompanying MIDI file); view the preview and send it. Your recipient will receive E-mail advising her or him where to pick up the card.
- Postcards of Italy - This site offers free digital greeting cards featuring lovely images of landscapes and monuments in Italy. They also offer romantic and humor postcards.
