LATEST NEWS from THE FREE SITE:
__________________________________________________________
Greetings, everyone! We had a number of subscribers write in and ask
what happened to last week's issue.
The answer: there wasn't one! We missed a week as we were busy
getting The Free Site set up at its new server. More about this
later.

Online free PIMs: Ready for prime time?
__________________________________________________________
A major trend that's been evolving among Web services in recent
months is the emergence of free Web-based calendar programs.
These free, ad-supported services aim to help you make your life more
organized; much like Personal Information Managers (PIMs) such as
Lotus Organizer or Microsoft Outlook.
These online PIMs offer such goodies as customizable calendars,
address books, "to-do" lists and reminder services. Some will even
let you synchronize data with your Palm Pilot.
On the whole, these online PIMs are coming along nicely. But they're
still limited in their usefulness by the overall pokey nature of the
Web itself. Even with a cable modem, you're likely to be frustrated
with their pokey speeds at times.
The Free Site offers a roundup of the Web's best free online PIMs (as
well as reminder services and E-mail alert services) here:
http://www.thefreesite.com/reminder.htm
By the way, in our last issue, we reviewed the various free online
access services and I mentioned that Dixon's Freeserve has 1.1
million subscribers.
A number of our readers pointed out that this service actually has
over 2.5 million subscribers. Now, if this British service would only
launch in the U.S., I'd be happy!
