While most of the feedback we've gotten at TheFreeSite.com about Free-PC.com's offer has been positive, some of our visitors have had complaints. One visitor, Benita, recently wrote in to share her experience. ``I was also one of the free PC recipients. I have mixed feelings about my new toy. So far, I have no complaints about the PC. I'm not the happiest camper when it comes to the technical support provided by the Free-PC.com folks. I have not been able to load Word 97 on this Microsoft-software dominated PC. The programming scripts have been constructed to allow all the commercial ad stuff and consequently, they are so long that they won't allow me to load anything that would reconfigure the autoexec.bat file. Most of my files have Word 97 charts and other stuff embedded in them. They come out scrambled when converted to the Microsoft Works word-processing program that is loaded on the PC. I'm too much a computer novice to manually reconfigure the autoexec.bat myself. Free-PC.com has not responded to my June E-mail inquiry. My toll calls to tech support result in, "We're working on the problem" or, "The fix is coming... next week". Tech support also advises me that the other bug of the system is most people are having problems with their free E-mail addresses. I'm really considering giving them their free PC back. This is a great Internet computer. If someone wants to actually use the computer, versus surfing the Web, they are probably as unhappy as I am.'' Thanks for sharing your experience, Benita. Hopefully the Free-PC.com people will improve their tech support. |
