  • Digital Blasphemy's Halloween Art - Every October, graphics guru Ryan Bliss emerges from his crypt to serve up the bone-chilling selection of free Halloween desktop wallpapers that you'll find here. Be sure to also check out Ryan's main site, Digital Blasphemy for a great selection of cutting-edge original art.
  • Free Halloween Screen Savers - Here's a frightfully entertaining collection of free Halloween-themed screen savers for Windows, featuring Disney characters Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and Daisy. You'll also find free Halloween-themed desktop wallpapers, as well as greeting cards. From screen saver guru Anthony Beaudion, creator of T & P SC Screen Savers.
  • Ben & Jerry's Halloween site - Ben & Jerry’s, the ice cream people, have a Halloween-themed site that offers fun and freebies. Click on "Free extra scoop" link to get coupons for ice cream. In the "Coloring Book" section, you'll find Halloween-themed coloring books to output on your printer. You'll also find games, free digital cards and Halloween crafts.
  • Free Halloween Themes - Dress up your computer desktop with the spooky free desktop themes available here. The themes here include ghoulish wallpaper, chilling sound effects, macabre music, scary startup and shutdown screens, eerie animation...well, you get the picture!
  • Jelly Belly sample - What's Halloween without candy? This site is giving away 600 samples of Jelly Belly candy every day.Click in the "free Jelly Belly samples" link in the lower right corner to submit your request. There is no certain "ideal" time to apply for the sample, as the deadline is randomly changed daily, so if you don't succeed, try, try again. (U.S. and Canada only).
  • VampHalloween Contest - Enter this contest for a shot at winning one of the many nifty vampire-related prizes here. Prizes here include a cool severed head stage prop that was used in the film, "Addicted to Murder," as well as the first page from the original manuscript from Michael Romkey's "Vampire Hunter." In all, there are 36 prizes, worth $1,800. The contest will run through Oct. 31. You must be 16 or older to enter. (U.S. and Canada only).
  • Free candy sample - Too old to go trick or treating? You can still get free candy, at this site. Click on the "Free Candy" graphic and complete the survey to request a sample of candy. Limit: one candy sample per household. From CandyCenter.com, "the world's largest online candy store." (U.S. and Canada only).
  • Free horror movies - This site offers several full-length horror classic movies that you can watch online for free, provided you have the free RealPlayer plug-in for your browser. Titles here include the influential silent masterpiece, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," as well as the controversial 1972 film, "Lemora, Lady Dracula." Note: viewing movies on the Net still has quite a ways to go before it's a satisfying experience. Still, this is worth a look, especially if you have a speedy connection.
  • Lisa's Halloween Icons - Graphics artist Lisa McKeown has created a delightful collection of freeware Halloween-themed icons, intended for "for homepages or non-profit web sites only." Images include bats, Dracula, candy corn, spiders, pumpkins, ghosts, witches, skeletons and more. The icons are available in a 50-kilobyte zipped file for easy download. You will need an unzipping program, such as this one, to uncompress the icons.
  • Heretic II - The perfect game for Halloween, Heretic II is a combination of a first-person shooter (like Quake) and a third-person adventure game (like Tomb Raider). Features rich graphics, innovative gameplay, awesome weapons and terrifying monsters. This free, fully playable demo offers loads of action, as well as network play. (35.6 megabytes: For Windows 95/98). Note: site is busy and can be difficult to access at times.
  • Blair Witch Project Screen Saver - There are now three different free official screen savers available from the creators of "The Blair Witch Project" that commemorate 1999's scariest film. Features haunting images and eerie music from the movie. (Available for Windows and Macs).
  • RadioCards' Halloween Postcards - This free Halloween digital greeting card site offers a novel idea: here, you can customize your card with an image and your personal greeting, as well as a live streaming radio station selection. From Radiocards.
  • Free Halloween fonts - If you're looking for free Halloween-themed fonts, this is the place to go. Designs here include "Creature," "Decaying," "Fingered Flesh," "Frankendorf," and many more scary fonts. From 1001 Free Fonts
  • Free Halloween art - Here, you'll find a nice little collection of free Halloween clipart. And with this site's online image editor, you can customize and edit these images, which include ghosts, tombstones, pumpkins, witches and the Grim Reaper.   • Free Halloween Backgrounds - Add a Halloween touch to your presentations or Web pages with the many free Halloween background images available at this site. Images here include ghosts, pumpkins, witches, skulls, spiders and loads more.
  • Halloween 99 Screen Saver - Get into the spirit of Halloween with this spooky, freeware screen saver. Halloween 99 features scary animated images, including a haunted house and a graveyard, as well as a creepy cast of characters: witches, ghouls, ghosts, mummies, skeletons and more. It also features a scene of various ghouls dancing to "Monster Mash." (984 kilobytes). For Windows 98/95.
  • Halloween at Just Postcards - Good selection of animated and humorous free digital postcards at this quality site. Just browse the thumbnail images; select a background; type in your personal message and pick a spooky music file and you're all set.
  • Free Halloween clipart - An extensive and charming collection of free Halloween clipart. Images here include signs, pumpkins, funny animations, bats, witches, vampires, ghosts, skeletons and more.
  • Halloween dingbat font - "Trick or Treat" is a freeware Halloween dingbat font with 26 characters that is "guaranteed to scare the living pixels out of your computer." Perfect if you have a Halloween themed presentation or Web page. From Blue Vinyl Fonts.
  • Ghoul's Delight Screen Saver - Watch over 20 different goings-on within the spooky haunted house as chilling creatures run amok, causing horrifying screams, and the wind whistles eerily in the background in this free screen saver. The link to the free version of this screen saver is at the bottom of their page.
  • Free Jack-O'-Lantern Pattern - Need some help in carving up that pumpkin? This site offers a creative, free pattern for jack-o'-lantern carving that you can output on your printer.
  • CatalogLink Halloween Costume Contest - Take a shot at winning a variety of Halloween prizes at CatalogLink, including gift certificates, Halloween socks, a talking Furby keychain, samplers, and more. CatalogLink offers loads of free catalogs and is well organized so that you can easily choose from among dozens of categories.
  • Free insect videos - Orkin, the pest control people, are offering free videos on a variety of creepy critters: termites, carpenter ants and "dangerous insects." There's also a tasty feature here on "bug cuisine." Recipes here include "Chocolate Covered Crickets," "Dry Roasted Insects," "Garlic Butter Fried Insects," and our favorite, "Toffee Surprise," (sure to be the hit at your next dinner party).   • Halloween goodies from UNICEF - UNICEF, an organization "dedicated to protecting children's rights," offers several fun Halloween freebies at its Web site. There are spooky digital greeting cards, pranks, online coloring books, and Halloween wallpaper for your computer's desktop. Also, you can fill out their survey and get a free Halloween screen saver.
  • Halloween Background Images - Looking for some spooky Halloween images to dress up your Web page? Background graphics maestro Tony Blalock offers over 50 free Halloween backgrounds at this site. There's a wide variety to choose from and all the images are designed to tile seamlessly.
  • Net Vampire - OK, this program doesn't have much to do with Halloween. But what the hey, it has a cool name, it's free and it's very useful if you do any downloading! Just drop-and-drop the URLs to Net Vampire and you can do all your downloading in one batch. Net Vampire resumes broken connections and restarts downloads. It's also specially designed to deal successfully with noisy servers and unreliable links. (For Windows 98/95).
  • Halloween Postcards - A nice little selection of free Halloween postcards is available here. Images include pumpkins, witches, a haunted house and children. From BabiesOnline.com.
  • Monster Bash - OK, so this game is somewhat dated. But it's still a fun title for Halloween. Monster Bash is an arcade title that features ghosts, goblins, skeletons and other creepy characters. It's definitely no Quake, but it'll give younger players some spooky fun. (For Windows). 1.01 megabytes.
  • Pathway to Darkness: Vampire Postcards - This site serves up 36 haunting images of vampires that you can send as free digital greeting cards. Pathway to Darkness, incidentally, is perhaps the Web's top resource for all things vampire-related, with forums, stories, games, vampire lore and much more. Turn out the lights, the party's starting!
  • Happy Halloween Clipart - Spooky selection of free images of things that go bump in the night. Images here include ghosts, mummies, Frankenstein, dracula: (you know, all the usual suspects). There's a fine selection of nice looking scary animations to spice up your Web site. There's also a nice selection of Halloween-themed calendar wallpaper here.
  • Free Haunted House Adventure - Click your way through the creepy corridors of this Halloween Haunted Mansion. "If you make it all the way through this adventure, there are free surprises for you."
  • Hawkmoon's Vampire Site - Vampires aren't really bad. They're just misunderstood. And it's a bloody shame! Speaking of vampires, this site serves up a good selection of free vampire background images, as well as sound files.
  • Grim Fandango - Here is a fantastic adventure game that is heavily influenced by Mexico's "Day of the Dead." One of the main characters is none other than the Grim Reaper (in fact the whole "cast" is composed entirely of the dead). This free, fully-playable demo features spooky 3D polygonal graphics and lots of puzzle-solving fun. (For Windows 95/98).
  • Free Tarot Readings - What do the mystical cards hold in store for your future? To get your free reading, select a deck & answer a few questions.
  • Caverns of Blood - A monstrous site with plenty of free Halloween clipart, free Halloween fonts, "Evil" sound files and "Spooky MIDI Files." If you use the Halloween graphics on your Web page, they request that you give them a linkback.
  • Halloween Recipes - At Mary's Rancid Food site, there are many free frightful recipes for young ghosts and goblins. Let me see here: they've got recipes for "Brain Cookies," "Blood Soup" and "French-Fried Eyeballs." Yummy! Also be sure to check out Mary's do-it-yourself Halloween decorations.
  • Ghoulish Games - Welcome to Nightmare Ned's spooky domain, where you can play free online games like "Black Cat," and "Monster Mash," and have a chance to win a "Nightmare Ned" CD.
