All you need to do is register (which is free, too) and abide by the rules. This popular service can be difficult to access during times of peak stock trading. (Information available on U.S. markets only.) Options quotes not available now, but are promised soon.
Image Saver Screen Saver - Make your own screen saver with this nifty free utility. Image Saver lets you easily display your own collection of images as a screen saver. Works with JPG, BMP and WMF files, among others. Highly configurable and lets you set "hotspot" corners to instantly activate the screensaver or prevent it from launching. Audiodiner.com - This is an interesting new MP3 sound file site with a unique twist: they pay artists for their music and then offer their MP3 files for free to the Web community. Here, you'll find features like "Soup of the Day," which highlights a new artist and gives you a chance to download their single. Also be sure to check out "The Freezer," which features a small, but intriguing collection of unknown artists who are turning out innovative work in genres from techno to rock.
Tony's Free Tiled Backgrounds - Tony Blalock serves up over 150 free seamless backgrounds for use in building Web sites. Good selection and variety. You may view thumbnail images of each background. Click on a thumbnail and you'll see how the background will appear on a Web site.
webGFX: free custom logos - You can create classy, professional-looking, custom logos with this new free service. Just select the font and logo style that you want and type in a text string (your custom message) and this service will create your image for you in JPG format. To use service, you must sign up for an account (which is free).
Diskeeper Lite - If you use Windows NT, you've likely noticed that it lacks a defrag feature. An essential freeware program, Diskeeper Lite fills the void and is designed exclusively for NT 4.0. Use it and you'll likely see faster performance and a happier, healthier hard drive.
Anna Kournikova Screen Saver - Here's a free screen saver featuring images of the dazzling rising star of the tennis world. A must for Anna fans.

Font Freak - A nicely designed, constantly updated resource, Font Freak offers thousands of free fonts for both Windows and Macs, both original and otherwise, organized alphabetically. You can preview each selection and, if you like it, download a ZIP compressed version. There's also a good selection of free dingbats.
Celebrity Autographs Vol. 2 - From free screen saver guru and autograph collector Anthony Beaudion comes this collection hot collection of signed photos from celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Ann Magaret Sylvester Stallone and more. (For Windows 95/98/NT). 1.25 megabytes.

Virtual Post Cards - Here's a nice up-and-coming free digital postcard service. Card topics include cats, flowers, sunsets, landscapes and butterflies and more are promised soon. There are some lovely photographic images here.
NoWorry Reminders - This is quite an impressive free reminder service that's easy to use and quite comprehensive. Just sign up and you'll automatically get E-mail reminder notices on a wide range of topics, including birthdays, anniversaries, bill payments, daily tasks, elections, holidays and more.
Kevin's Free Fonts - This site serves up over 700 Windows TrueType fonts, organized alphabetically. There's also a helpful "how-to" on installing fonts on your system, as well as a roundup of free font utilities.
Webmasters Only - A helpful roundup of all sorts of freebies and free services for Web authors. Whether you're looking for a good counter, a banner exchange, or a JavaScript or if you're trying to develop your Web editing skills, this is a good place to go. There's also a Meta tag generator and a basic HTML tutorial and much more.
The Promoter - Here's an excellent free service that lets you submit your Web site to 450 search engines and directories in real-time, a process that can take anywhere from five to 60 minutes. (Which is not much time compared to the many hours it'd take to do this by hand). In return for using this service, you're required to place a small snippet of HTML coding on your page. No adult-oriented sites allowed.
BingoMania - Play bingo online and win prizes at this free, fun new site. Just download the free bingo client (For Windows) and start playing. BingoMania offers prizes ranging from $25 to $1,000.
Populous III - The first installment of this popular British strategy game series started the whole "you are god" genre in computer gaming a few years back and was an enormous commercial and critical success. Populous III looks set to be another classic. The commercial game hasn't been released yet, but you can get a taste in this fine, free demo. Once you've downloaded the demo, go here for free multi-player action. (18.3 megabytes. For Windows 95/98.)
Sourd-Prise Digital Postcards - This interesting free digital card site is the only site we've seen that offers E-cards with pictures related to the topic of deafness and sign language. (Available in English and French).
The Font Empire - A large and growing archive of free Windows TrueType fonts for download. Currently includes over 1,000 fonts and more are added every day. Each font has an example shown for easy previewing. The fonts are conveniently arranged alphabetically and by style. Categories include Bulky/Wavy, Calligraphy, Decorative, Extreme, Funky, Futuristic, Gothic/Horror, Handwriting, Outline and Regular.
Station4-ButtonFactory - Are you looking for free button graphics? This is the place to go. There's a nice selection of buttons here, with text and without and artist Ola Lofven will make you a free custom button, as well. All buttons here are the standard-sized 88-by-31 pixels.
Grim Fandango - Here's a fantastic adventure game that is heavily influenced by film noir and Mexican folklore. One of the main characters is none other than the Grim Reaper (in fact the whole "cast" is composed entirely of the dead). This free, fully-playable demo features spooky 3D polygonal graphics and lots of puzzle-solving fun. (For Windows 95/98).
Fast Free Webs - Promising new free Web hosting service that offers you 10 megabytes of space (or 30 megabytes, if you get more than 5,000 visitors/day). Offers "unlimited" upload access, data transfer and Web page traffic. (Most free Web hosters that make this claim eventually retract it: here's hoping that Fast Free Webs can break the pattern.) Fast Free Webs also offers a speedy server and 24-hour monitoring.
Netscape Communicator 4.5 - The browser wars rage on and this latest release shows that Netscape isn't ready to concede defeat to Microsoft. Communicator 4.5 is a much-improved, stable, easy-to-use browser that offers an innovative "Smart Browsing" feature to make your navigation easier. 14.3 megabytes. (Available for Windows 95/98/NT; Mac PowerPC and Unix).
Postcards of Italy - This site offer free digital postcards featuring lovely images of landscapes and monuments in Italy. They also offer romantic and humor postcards.
Mars Wallpaper Collection - Get a free collection of breathtaking photo images that were taken by the Pathfinder mission to the Red Planet. Perfect to liven up your computer's desktop. This package includes eight NASA images. Better than Star Trek: this is the real thing!
Free investing magazine & video - Complete the short form to get two weeks free of "Investor's Business Daily," along with the free investing video "The real Secrets of Making Money." Madden NFL 99 - This cutting-edge, eye-popping sports title is probably the best football computer game ever made. Lovely Ladies Screen Saver - Here's a free screen saver that features beautiful images of sexy women, modeling swimsuits and lingerie. This screen saver provides password protection and multiple screen display effects. Two editions are available. (2.1 megabytes. For Windows 95/98/NT. 256 color SVGA graphics).
France-Mail - (For our French visitors) France-Mail offers free Web-based E-mail. You may read your mail through a POP3 account, (but you can't send E-mail via POP3). They offer an interesting feature in which people can leave audio messages for you (which you may listen to as WAV sound files). People can also leave messages for you via France's national Minitel computer network. The Free Site offers more international free E-mail services here.
Mr. Mirror - This helpful free utility lets you back up your data to an alternate disk drive (such as a Zip or Jaz drive). It creates mirror images of your selection of directories and files. Mr. Mirror's features include file filters, logging, templates, finding redundant files, drag & drop, a built-in scheduler, etc. Reliable and easy to use. Here's a screen shot. World Wide Recipes - This free newsletter delivers recipes by E-mail to over 40,000 subscribers daily. Subscribers receive a complete gourmet menu, from appetizer to dessert, every week.
WebSubmit - This free service will help you get the word out about your Web site. Web Submit will submit your page to over 500 search engines, directories and lists on the Net. This service is free for personal Web pages and nonprofit sites. If you have a business site, you can still get the service for free, as long as you display their banner.
Colgate Total coupon - Complete the form to get a coupon for Colgate Total toothpaste, as well as an information pamphlet. One per household. Allow six to eight weeks for delivery. (U.S. and Puerto Rico only.)
Site Tracker - If you're looking to build traffic on your site, you really can't have enough details about your visitors. And Site Tracker delivers detailed information in spades. Using this free service, you'll be able to determine a huge amount of info on your visitors: where they came from, what their screen resolution, browser and OS is and even how long they spent browsing your site.
EditPad - Here's a text editing program from Belgium that makes a fine replacement for Windows' crummy notepad. Although there are similar programs that are more feature-laden, EditPad is a solid, crash-free program that loads quickly. It offers filters, text conversions, access to last 16 files opened, MAPI support (for E-mailing text) and more.
Planet Egomania Graphics - Nice new free graphics resource for original borders and tiled backgrounds from the talented Natalie. Not the biggest collection around, but a nice start. The site is password protected to discourage direct linking.
PC Temp Clean - Have you got a lot of junk files clogging up your Windows "temporary" directory? Then install this little free gem. It'll automatically clean old files from the temp directory (such as old E-mail attachments) and can enhance your computer's performance, as a result. (For Windows 95/98 and NT.)
Vita-Spelt coupons - Fill out the guestbook at this site to get free coupons from Vita-Spelt, makers of pasta products. (Only available in continental U.S.)
HipBONE: Surf with a friend - HipBONE is an interesting, free service that allows two or more people to connect their browsers and surf the Web together. You and your colleagues can do surfing, shopping and searching online together. You can also collaborate or watch each other fill out Web-based forms together. Among other uses, it's handy as a teaching tool.
DiscussionWorld.com - How would you like your own message forum on your Web site? DiscussionWorld.com offers excellent, free message forums that you can customize. You also get an administrator's page that lets you delete messages, search for messages and other options.
Alphabet Connection - Like the title says, this unique free graphics site offers a big roundup of letters (as well as numbers and punctuation signs). Currently, they have 10 animated alphabets and 30 static ones. Everything is neatly organized, so you can find what you need, quickly.
Intercent 98 - Here's a helpful free utility from the Netherlands that makes it easy to keep track of the time you spend online. Intercent keeps a time log, as well as calculating the cost of each separate online session and cumulative time and costs. Easy to use. This site is in Dutch; if you can't find the program, the direct download link is here. (For Windows: 926 kilobytes). Available in Dutch and English languages.
Patricia Enterprises - Patricia Enterprises offers seven megs of free Web space with instant activation. Features include free form processing, a free secure sever, free installation help and a free guestbook. They do not display annoying pop-up ads and they have no advertising restrictions (porn, "warez," and hate group materials excepted). Your URL here will be http://mysp.com/p/yoursite.
WebJump - This is a promising looking new entry in the free Web space field. WebJump offers a generous 25 megabytes of space. It's easy to get set up at this speedy hoster. They also appear to take tech support seriously (a rarity among free Web space providers). A number of our visitors have written in to report that they are satisifed with WebJump. You must display a 150-by-75 pixel banner on each page.
Fork-O-Grams - Have you ever stumbled across a really bad Web site? You know, the ones that take forever to load. And when they do load, there's nothing worthwhile to see? Or the ones with the really painful backgrounds that makes it hard to see the text? Well, send that site's Webmaster a "Fork-O-Gram." It's a free message that you can easily send any Web site owner that lets them know that they need to work on making their site better.
Amaya - From the gatekeepers of the Web, W3C, comes this free, highly useful Web authoring tool & browser combination program. Amaya has tons of features, such as WYSIWYG and a spell checker and is evolving all the time. You don't need to know HTML to build a Web page with Amaya. Here's a screen shot. CLOX: a free time utility - An interesting and useful free software program, CLOX shows you, at a glance, what the time is across the globe via both analog and digital displays. The Classified News - Here's a free weekly E-zine that offers plenty of advice on where to get free advertising on the Web. Each issue contains tips, articles and leads for free advertising spots.
WallMaster - Tired of looking at the same old wallpaper all the time? Install this cool free utility and liven up your Windows desktop. WallMaster is an excellent tool that makes it easy to change your wallpaper. You can even program it to automatically change your wallpaper at a specified time interval (such as every 30 minutes). It supports all major image formats.
The Answering Machine - This clever site offers a large collection of free, cool messages that you can use to liven up your phone's answering machine. Railroad Tycoon II demo - Get a free demo of the worthy sequel to one of computer gaming's all-time classic titles. Railroad Tycoon II's demo features two fully playable scenarios of this addictive strategy game, in which you attempt to forge a transportation empire from the ground up. It's complex, deep and immersive. This file is a whopping 45 megs and will take 4 hours to download on a 28.8 modem. For Windows.
Leo's Icon Archive - Here's a nice collection of useful and funny free Web graphics. Leo serves up thousands of icons, caps, lines, flags, markers, bullets and original work. Categories here include such topics as Mozilla icons, butterflies, "welcome signs," and "construction signs."
Outlook Messenger Express - If you're using Microsoft Outlook 97or 98, then you'll find this freeware utility very helpful. Outlook Messenger Express lets you quickly and easily send a message without going to the hassle of loading the cumbersome Outlook program itself. You can minimize it to the Windows desktop tray when you're not using it, as well. (For Windows: 2.7 megabytes).
Free2Try - Here's a bright, colorful site with a wealth of freebie offers. You name it, and it's here: free samples, contests, free catalogs, gift certificates, free magazines, freeware, opportunities for earning cash and much more.
Free Bible study book - Put in your request for a free copy of the book, "Your Bible and You," a 254-page Bible study book that has "over 2 million in print." Allow 2 to 4 weeks for delivery in U.S., other countries "may require longer."
FreeAccess - (Netherlands only) This one's for our Dutch visitors. This service offers Dutch users free Net access, with speedy 56K and ISDN connections. You only need to pay for the cost of the phone call (and local call rate access is available in almost half of the Netherlands).
FontPage - Do you have a bunch of fonts scattered all over your system? Bring order out of chaos, with this essential free font utility. FontPage lets you easily examine and compare all the fonts on your computer. Lots of neat features, including a slick interface and the ability to print an image of any installed font on your PC. (For Windows: 390 kilobytes).
FreeGraphics.com - With a domain like "FreeGraphics.com," this site has a lot to live up to. And Claire Schaeffer's site delivers quite nicely. FreeGraphics.com is a well-organized, easy to navigate, and searchable database of free graphics links. Graphics include buttons, bullets, control panels, bars, sets and more. There are also free backgrounds, animations, accessories and graphics tutorials. All sites are rated and reviewed.
Anyware Antivirus - A free program, Anyware will scan your computer for viruses (and let you delete any infected files). Anyware detects all the latest viruses, including Polymorph, Stealth, Trojan Horse, Multi-Partite, E-mail, Internet and macro viruses. Note: this free utility is a scanner only; for virus-cleaning capabilities, you must upgrade to the commercial product. Available for Windows and DOS.
JointPlanning.com - Here's a free service that offers personal and group scheduling, "to do" lists, file-sharing, and discussion groups that are accessible only by you and your organization. Offers many nice features, such as letting you import your Palm Pilot and Microsoft Outlook addresses. Useful for small businesses, students, investment clubs and individuals.
Submit Your Site - Here's a free service that lets you submit your Web site quickly & easily to 28 top search engines. They also offer a service that allows you to add a Web site submission service to your own site (a sure way to help attract visitors).
Urban Assault - Microsoft's new must-have game title is an engrossing real-time strategy game that features loads of action. Urban Assault is somewhat like Red Alert (you build bases, stage campaigns, manage resources, etc.), but with better gaming technology (and the ability to "jump into" any of your vehicles during gameplay). This fully-playable free demo is 12.9 megabytes. For Windows.
Biblical Verses Screen Saver - Here's a nice free screen saver that displays 10 beautiful photos with verses from the Bible and plays Christian music in the background. Here's a screen shot. There are buttons, banners, animations, and more, as well as an always-interesting "Daily Graphic." There's also a selection of "remote controls" and interfaces that visitors can use to navigate your site.
mIRC & Eggdrop Archives - An essential site for users of mIRC, the Web's top chat program. This informative site will help you get the most out of mIRC and offers many scripts, bots and add-ons for this chat client. There's also assistance here for using Eggdrop, the popular advanced IRC robot.
Calc98 - Fed up with Win 95's lightweight built-in calculator? Try out this outstanding powerhouse free utility. A serious number cruncher, Calc98 is a scientific calculator with tons of features and loads of bells and whistles. It's free, but if you use it more than 90 days, the author would like you to register it (which is free). (For Windows: 230 kilobytes)
ListBot - This service offers a free mailing list for your Web site. ListBot's mailing lists allow you to send announcements and news to people who sign up. This is the best free mailing list provider we've seen.
Ryan's Graphics Center - Here's a good new source for free, original Web page graphics. Categories include metallic ornaments, directional graphics, frame graphics, GeoCities linkback buttons, blank banners, gold graphics, animated GIFs, theme sets and backgrounds. If you use any of their graphics, a linkback is required to their site.
Pofolks4 Graphics - A free graphics resource that offers plenty of free graphics for your Web site. Categories include shadow effects, background sets, welcome signs, home page signs, guestbook buttons, static & animated buttons, bars, lines, bullets, balls, backgrounds and more. Free custom graphics also available.
All For Free & Free For All - Here's a nicely designed new freebies resource with plenty of goodies. They serve up free samples, contests, draws, prizes, services and more.
Binary Boy - The Usenet newsgroups: unless you're a newbie, you'll know that they're a fantastic resource for free pictures, sounds and other binary goodies. Binary Boy, an excellent freeware utility, searches the newsgroups for binary file attachments that match your search criteria. A typical run on a 28.8 modem will scan 1,000's of subjects in a few minutes. Check out The Free Site's newly expanded software section for more freeware programs.
Free Navy SEAL poster - Register as a visitor to this site (it's free and involves filling out a fairly long form) and get a free Navy SEAL poster. (U.S. only; allow four to six weeks for delivery).
BarEyes - Put a pair of animated eyes on your Windows 95 tray. These eyes follow your cursor around; wink and even sleep. Not the most useful program around but a lot of fun.
Stock tracking software - Get a free copy of NASDAQ Level II, which allows you to find the best prices of stocks through market makers offering the best bids and offer prices. The software is free with a subscription to Signal Online, which you can try free for 30 days. Signal Online provides "fast, reliable, real-time quotes."
Stellar Crisis - A unique, free multiplayer game set in space. The idea here is for you to build the largest empire in the galaxy. No downloads needed; it all happens in your browser. In this turn-based builder game, you manage star fleets, systems, resources, etc. Challenging and addictive. Kiss your free time goodbye. (Works with WebTV, too)
The FreeShop - Here's a promising looking new freebies site. Offers fun stuff, Web page stuff, downloads, references and games. There's also an online HTML editor, a free-for-all links page and more.
irc.ramlink.net - Here's a promising, fast-growing free IRC server that offers access via either the Web or an IRC client (such as mIRC) They also offer a free service that lets Webmasters easily set up a chat room on their own page. Note: they do not allow porn or warez (illegally pirated software).
Formatta Filler - This freeware program allows you to download and fill out forms electronically, as well as receive and send forms using E-mail. Another freeware program here is the helpful Formatta Web Filler, which allows you to fill out forms on Web pages, using your browser.

LinkedUp - Here's a unique free service that allows you to automatically create your own personal Yahoo-style Web directories with your links and categories. It's a great way to organize your site's "Other Links" or "Other Sites" pages better.
Dancing Mouse Free Graphics - This free graphics site excels with its offerings of free backgrounds, buttons and lines. Goodies on tap here include dark & light backgrounds, embossed backgrounds, buttons (rectangular, round and odd-shaped) and more.
Virtual Arcade - One of the Web's top free gaming resources, Virtual Arcade servers up many sites that offer games that you can play in your browser, via Shockwave and Java. Popular titles here include Pac-Man, Tetris, Asteroid, Alien Invasion, Bomberman and Mars 2200 A.D.
Free Net access - There's lot of freebies on the Net. But getting on the Net itself costs money, right? Well, this new ad-supported service, the Tritium Network, is now offering free Net access. You access the Net here, using their free software. There's no start-up fee, no setup fee and no monthly access fees. The only catch: part of your display (12 percent, to be exact) is taken up by ad space. U.S. only; not all areas are covered.
Add4Free - If you've got a Web site, you've got two choices in promoting it. You can either trudge around to all the search engines and make your submissions. Or you can visit Add4Free and submit from one convenient location. Add4Free also offers a service for tuning up your site's Meta tags. The Free Site offers more free Webmaster goodies here.
Sippin' Good Java - A free Java and JavaScript site that features plenty of scripts and applets. Categories include games, clocks, utilities, text, visual and sounds. Free Broadway demo CD - Broadway lets any PC user create MPEG or streaming videos that can easily be added to Web sites, presentations, training programs, and home videos. Debt Counselors of America - There's a number of free goodies (as well as tons of valuable information) at this site. Freebies include a bumper sticker, pamphlets, desktop wallpaper and various publications on finance, credit and budgeting. There's also several freeware financial software programs.
SuperStats - Outstanding free Web page statistics service that serves up all the information about your visitors you could ask for. Virtual Fish - First there was the Tamagotchi virtual pet; now there's the Virtual Fish. This free computer pet can develop a "unique personality," depending on how you care for it. If you feed it regularly and play with it, you will be the lucky owner of a fish with a happy disposition
On the other hand, if you don't treat it right, it'll develop "SFA," Serious Fish Attitude, and fall ill.
Light Speed - An outstanding free screen saver, Light Speed serves up infinite variations of starscapes and offers wonderful animations and sounds. It offers an engine that displays up to 6,000 stars on the screen at the same time. It sure beats Microsoft's lame "Flying Through Space" screen saver that comes with Win 95! Our only quibble with this screen saver is that it's a memory hog.
Free investor's publication - Get a free publication, "Questions You Should Ask Before You Invest," sent to you either via snail mail or E-mail. This publication is distributed by The National Association for Investor Rights & Awareness, a nonprofit group.
ScreenSnatch - Here's a nice freeware program that'll take a snapshot of your desktop & applications and save it to a high color BMP file. Compact and useful. (For Windows).
World Opponent Network - One of the most impressive free online game matching services that we've seen. The games here include the classics (such as chess, checkers and backgammon), as well as the cutting-edge. Categories include sports, strategy, action, arcade, role-playing and adventure. Support for many top commercial titles is available, but there's many worthy games to play here, even if you own none of the commercial games. A quality site.

Listserv Lite - We've had a number of visitors ask if there are any free mailing list programs available on the Net. Here's one from the makers of the well-known industrial-strength creators of Listserv. The Free Edition is a freeware version of Listserv Lite, limited to a maximum of 10 mailing lists with up to 500 subscribers each. This version is free, as long as the licensee does not derive a profit from using the software. Be sure to read the usage policy.

HVS GIF Cruncher - If you run a Web site, you should make sure that your images load as quickly as possible. This free tool lets you easily shrink the size of your GIF images, by up to 90 percent, for faster loading. (It's similar to the excellent GIF Wizard, which was once free, but now charges). Free Frank Sinatra Screen Saver - This free screen saver is a tribute to the great singer. This is a ZIP file that is 1.74 megs in size. Free mailing list service - Inersia networks is offering free mailing lists that offer essential functions like Majordomo or ListServ mailing list management programs. What's more, their service is advertisement-free and available for personal and commercial use.
Virtual Chocolate - Send your fellow chocolate lovers a virtual treat at this quality free digital postcard service. Just select a delectable chocolate image and type in your personal message. These "treats" are mouthwatering (and calorie-free!)
Free Grafix - Here's a nice free graphics site with plenty of goodies to spice up your Web pages and presentations. Free sounds for your Web site - KeyTrax offers a nice free service to let you easily add WAV sounds to your Web page. Just fill out a short form and copy the coding that you
are provided and you're all set. The only catch is that you must display their banner. Sounds include: voice effects, music, humor, holiday themes and business. There's also a nice collection of sound effects, including aircraft, bombs, clocks, computers, fireworks, guns, machines, nature, tools, wind chimes, etc.
MaxiChat - This is a new free chat service that allows you to create your own chat rooms. MaxiChat services are also available for Australia, Britain, France, Quebec, Belgium, and Switzerland.
ChristianEmail - A speedy, easy-to-use free Web-based E-mail service. Using it, you can consolidate all your current E-mail accounts and have them delivered into your ChristianEmail account. You may also forward all of your ChristianEmail to another address. Offers up to 10 different mail filtering configurations, up to five mail folders and offers an address book that can include photos, if you'd like. ChristianEmail can also be used to send yourself reminders at future dates. No spamming allowed.
U-Planet: a free online sci-fi game - Here's a fun, free Web-based strategy simulation network game. The goal here is to become an emperor of "U-Planet," by building your country, developing robots, competing and winning battles. This game is from Korea, but the instructions are in English and it loads reasonably quickly.

ZDNet Mail - An excellent new Web-based E-mail service, ZDNet Mail allows you to access your E-mail from any computer via a browser. It's easy to access and offers you a permanent address (even if you change Internet service providers).
Features include: an address book, the ability to send graphics, etc. as attachments, an autoresponder (which you can set up to reply to people when you're on vacation). You can also check your POP mail account(s) with ZDNet Mail.
MessageMates - This service offers cool, free digital animations that you can personalize and send as E-mail attachments. Themes are added every week. Current topics include Frank Sinatra, "Alienz," and the World Cup.
Freeware Applet FX - Offers an impressive, eye-catching collection of Java applets. This site offers a freeware version of its "Applet FX," package, which includes 20 applets and a "Visual Applet Configurator," a tool to help you customize the applets. Southern Exposure Vacation Rentals - Vacation season is coming up and this site offers a helpful free service. Southern Exposure lists vacation rental listings for free. Just fill out the form with all of your details (location, rates, etc.) and they'll list it, along with photos of your property.
Virtual Places - This is a cool new program that lets you chat while you surf the Web. Virtual Places attaches its windows to your Web browser window and lets you join "tours," create tours, play games and host your own chats. Available for Windows and Macs. You can either download the demo software (recommended) or use a Java or Active X version.
Eurobanner - This is a promising new free banner exchange service from Europe that offers a standard 2-to-1 ratio. Easy to set up. They offer Web site stats and a counter. With this service you can choose your audience (i.e.: have your banner displayed to European audiences only). The Free Site offers more free banner services here.
The Globe: Free Web space - This major Web space provider offers six megs of space, along with free E-mail and chat. You may create your Web pages here by writing the HTML coding yourself or you may use this service's "PageWizard" to write the coding for you. This service also offers fun, free multimedia Active X objects called "Things" that you can easily place on your page. "Things" come in several varieties, including games, Web site navigation and holiday themes.
FontPage - This essential free font utility lets you examine and compare all fonts on your system, view them with all type specifications available (bold, italic, underline, as well as in 3D) and print a font page of any installed font on your computer. (For Windows).

Clarion - This is an outstanding free MIDI and audio CD player for Windows. Has a number of cool features, such as CDDB suppport (which will look up CD track titles via the Net). 3D Virtual Aquarium - For ages, we've been looking around for a free aquarium screen saver. And now we've found one. 3D Virtual Aquarium offers nice-looking visuals. You can change the background and configure it to display new fish and effects and even listen to your favorite MIDI sound files. This free beta version comes with three fish.
freeimages.com - This is an impressive new resource for free graphics on the Web. freeimages.com features all-original clipart, including backgrounds, buttons, icons, bars, and digital art. There's also a cool "Digital Images" collection that features eye-catching art in unique categories, including "Aliens & Spaceships," "Creepy Crawlies," "Frost & Fire," "Spirals," "Dark Fantasy," and more.
QueuePlay - This small free utility lets you queue up a list of media files from the Windows 95 desktop, then play them back with a single click. It's only 27 kilobytes in size.
Super Calculator - Windows has a built-in calculator, but it's pretty lame. If you need more serious
number-crunching capabilities, then check out this free program. It's a command line-style
calculator that lets you run math expressions with your keyboard.
Chub Gam 3-D Director's Cut - This is one of the best freeware games available. It's a 3-D corridor shooter, with "controversial" cinema cut scenes, digital sounds and lots of action. You battle waves of enemies and weird characters with a large arsenal that includes shotguns, machine guns, grenades, missile launchers, chemical weapons, etc. Not just a demo: this is the whole game.
Calculator.com - At this site, you get free access to a mind-boggling collection of calculators for every conceivable need.

PlaySite - This excellent free multiplayer online gaming site offers plenty of board, word and card games, including a lot of popular classics like backgammon, chess, hearts and spades. You'll need a Java-enhanced browser to join the action here. PlaySite uses rating systems to rank users according to how well they play.

FreeZip - This is an excellent free utility for "unzipping" or decompressing files that you've downloaded off the Net. (Any file that you encounter that has a "ZIP" extension has been zipped to make the download go quicker). FreeZip is speedy and easy to set up and use. FreeZip integrates with Windows Explorer and uses file associations and context menus to zip or unzip files, including long file names and subdirectories.
Celebrity Autographs Screen Saver - This new screen saver features images and autographs of various legends of the silver screen. Check out a screen shot here.
